Branch Notes

Chennai-Kodambakkam Branch (Tamilnadu) — The 288th monthly CME programme was held on 31-12-2006 on the topics ‘prokinetic agents’, ‘hearing loss’ and ‘carpal-tunnel syndrome’.
Erode Branch (Tamilnadu) — During the month of December, 2006 the Branch held CME AMS meet and the topics of discussion were ‘non-coronary intervention’, ‘endoscopic pulmonology’ and ‘surgical treatment for atrial fibrillation’. Holding blood donation camps, free eye camps, free neurology camps’ was other community programmes conducted by the Branch during December, 2006. During the month of January, 2007 the Branch organised blood donation camps, medical check-up camps, free eye camps and diabetes detection and awareness programme. A live programme on ‘eye care’ was held on 13-01-2007. The Republic Day was observed in a befitting manner on 26-01-2007 by the Branch.
Marthandam Branch (Tamilnadu) — On World AIDS day (01-12-2006) the Branch conducted special medical camp at Chithirancode village. Community activities by the Branch included chikungunya awareness programme held on 07-10-2006. The CME session was held on 28-10-2006 on the topic ‘neurological disease’.
Poonamallee High Road Branch (Tamilnadu) — World AIDS day was observed on 01-12-2006 by the Branch by conducting a health camp, HIV/AIDS screening. It arranged one lecture on ‘drug abuse prevention in the work place’ on 28-11-2006. Physician training initiative in HIV/AIDS was held on 9th and 10th December, 2006. A lecture was organised on 10-12-2006 on ‘injuries of the shoulder and the knee’. An international workshop on ‘defining the future of HIV/AIDS – next 25 years’ was conducted on 18-20th December, 2006. CME programme was held on 23-12-2006 on ‘recent trends in COPD’. During the month of January the CME programme held on 14-01-2007 on ‘my concept of sensitivity and specificity of the results of investigations as applied to a family physician’. A scientific session was held on 17-01-2007 on ‘managing arrythmias – where do we stand?’ Republic Day was observed on 26-01-2007 by arranging various lectures of scientific topics. Pulse polio immunisation programme was held on 07-01-2007.
Virudhunagar District Branch (Tamilnadu) — Community activities by the Branch included organising World AIDS day on 01-12-2006, free medical camps on 3rd, 10th, 22nd December 2006, blood donation camp on 18-12-2006 and eye donation camp on 28-12-2006. CME programme included physician training initiative on 21-01-2007. In the month of January, 2007 the Branch conducted medical camps on 2nd, 10th, 18th, 20th and 22nd January, 2007. Pulse polio campaign was done on 07-01-2007. Blood donation camp was held on 26-01-2007.
Banaras Branch (UP) — Blood donation camps were organised on 10-12-2006 and 17-12-2006. Monthly clinical meeting was held on 23-12-2006 on the topics ‘osteoporosis’, ‘interstitial lung diseases’, ‘allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis’ and ‘total hip replacement’. A CME on the theme ‘female foeticide and social scenario’ was held on 26-12-2006. Community service day was observed on 15-01-2007. Anaemia detection camp and a free health check-up camp was organised on 15-01-2007. ‘Scar endometriosis’ was the topic of the clinical meeting held on 27-01-2007.
Dehradun Branch (Uttaranchal) — CME programme was held on 07-10-2006 on the topics ‘anaemia management in chronic renal failure’ and ‘approach in breast lump’. On 28-10-2006 the topics of CME programme were ‘prevention of amputation and management of leg ulcer’ and ‘management of refractive errors’. Public awareness programme was held on 29-10-2006 on alcoholism. Topics on 2nd December, 2006 for CME were on ‘recent advances in medical oncology’ and ‘an overview of genito-urinary cancers’. On 16th December, 2006 the topics were on ‘current trends in cardiac surgery’ and ‘osteo-arthritis–hip and knee replacement’.

 

Achievement

(1) Dr Suresh V Shellikeri, general surgeon, General Hospital, KGF, Karnataka was awarded best healthcare award for the year 2006 by the Environmental Research Institute and Human Care (an autonomous body serving government on environment and ecology).
(2) Dr PM Shukla of Station Road, Akola was awarded the prestigious National Award for Child Welfare–2005 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India.
